Buxus and Taxus Topiary
Obelisk
(Buxus sempervirens) |
Description
![]() |
An obelisk is basically a cone with four flat sides similar to a pyramid. sometimes they continue on to a point, but normally they are cut of square at the top. they are available in buxus sempervirens from about 40cm upwards, but look better in th larger sides due to the definition of the straight edged sides. |

Spirals
(Buxus sempervirens) |
Description
Spirals are cut from cones with a single central stem, with the foliage left to crate a corkscrew effect up the central stem. although it is possible, it is dificult to successfully grow a spiral taller once cut. Therfore it is best to buy the size spriral you require and keep it that size by clipping. |

Obelisk (Taxus
baccata)
Description
Taxus baccata makes a nice obelisk, but only really when it is a metre high or more. any smaller than this and the definition of the edges is not so good. |
Sprial (Taxus baccata)
Description
Again, Taxus baccata makes a nice larger spiral. |
